Today marks the 40th anniversary of the release of Minutemen’s milestone Double Nickels On the Dime. An album that has been and continues to be an all time favorite, one that astounds and inspires with each listen. As I posted on various social media today, I could (and have on several previous occasions) go on at length about what the album has meant to me. Today, I only had time to jot down a few sentences, barely scratching the surface of what the music and lyrics therein has to offer.
Luckily for all of us, Stewart Smith has found the time and made the effort to go on a deep dive over at the Quietus, expertly drawing from sources such as Michael T. Fournier’s 33 1/3 book on the album and Michael Azerrad’s Our Band Could Be Your Life, and adding valuable insights and views of his own. A highly recommended read on the occasion of an all time classic’s anniversary.
Can save my Monsen Bucks as I have vinyl and CD plus a live board tape that includes most of the album! This album is esteemed in my human development.
